Lewis Wright Short Story Competition (2019):  

Entry Fee : NIL; Prizes 1st £75, 2nd £50

Closing date 15 May 2019

Short Stories should be not more than 1500 words. On line submissions as a WORD.doc attachment to an email to:

Herbert Spencer Poetry Competition (2019):

Entry Fee: Nil;  Prizes 1st £ 50; 2nd £25.

All competition entries should not have been published, either in The Author or elsewhere.  

All competitions are open only to SCPSW members. Join in order to enter - eligible writers include serving or retired members of the Civil Service, Armed Forces, National Health Service, Local Government, the Police Force or any Public Service.

You can submit entries if you join before a competition deadline.  Details of membership HERE.

Vee Bradley Humorous Poetry Competition. Entries should be humorous, no longer than 30 lines, with each poem on a separate sheet.

Gordon Gompers Competition for travel articles or any non-fiction piece. Maximum 2,000 words.

All entries should preferably be sent on line as a WORD.doc attachment to an email. On a lead sheet all entries should bear the name of the competition being entered, the submission's title, the author’s name and address and a pen name if required.  
HARD COPY should be typed on A4 paper with word count.
